Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of United States. She is the first female vice president and is the highest-ranking female official in U.S history. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and also as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and reelected in 2014. From 2017 until 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator , she supported healthcare reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a pathway for immigrants who are not legal citizens, the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. She is most famous for her direct questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
